Meeting Theme Suggestions!!

In Meeting Info on October 18, 2010 at 4:08 pm

I don’t think that you need to have a wordpress account to comment on entries, but if so, please correct me.

This post is solely for the purpose of gathering ideas for themes for meetings. Our (incredibly well-received) meeting on “Eros” was a member-suggested idea! It’s hard for Hilary and I to come up with themes, and we’d like Haliburton to reflect our members’ interests as well! To that extent, please comment with suggestions for meetings. Try to keep them fairly sane, that’s our one request. We shall ponder with due deliberation and hopefully your ideas will come to fruition!

Feeling Sinister?

Well, Haliburton Enthusiasts, it is yet again that time… We’ll be having another meeting this very Thursday, October 21! With all luck, we shall be meeting in the Senior Common Room (in Cochran and accessible from the A&A), a space most conducive to Literary Exploits. Once again, refreshments to be served.

Our theme for this week’s meeting is Banned Literature. We’re a bit behind the times on this one, as Banned Books Week was September 25 – October 2, but really, better late than never. Bring any excerpt from a book, play, novel, etc. that suffered at the hands of censorship to read and share! Hopefully Big Brother will turn a blind eye.

Here’s a list of the most commonly challenged books in the US from 1990-1999. You can also google “banned books lists” if you can’t find anything to suit your needs.

Once again, I am going to remind everyone in the Haliburton who frequents this blog (so just me, really) that we are still taking ideas of what to put on our WordPress to jazz it up. We really want this blog to serve not only as an announcement space, but also as a resource, if you will, linking to free online collections of literature (like the Gutenberg Project) or book reviews, or really anything you have! If you’ve written a review, we’ll put it up. I’ll bring this up at the next meeting so have some ideas!

As always, inform your unenlightened Frosh friends who were foolish enough not to sign up at Society Day! We have free wine and cheese, how can you go wrong, I ask you.

Love, Lust and Desire!

Exciting news! Our second meeting of the year will be this very Thursday, October 7, at 7:30 in the Senior Common Room (under Cochran Bay). Was that bold enough? As you may have gathered, our theme for this meeting will be “Eros”. We hope that you will bring some spicy readings to share!

As usual, wine and cheese will be served, and your president has promised that she will bring something called “aphrodisiac squares”, so you will certainly have to come to find out just what those are.

In other news, this blog is looking kind of sparse! We’d like your help to fix this. If you have suggestions of what you would like us to put up on this blog, you can post a comment/shoot us an email. Ideas include but aren’t limited to book reviews, essays, or perhaps even a collection of links to free online editions of books/stories/what have you. We want your input!

That’s all for now. Hopefully we will see you all at the meeting on Thursday!! Last week’s turnout was rather sad, so do please come out for a bit before you run off to do whatever you will.
