All Rights Reserved

In Uncategorized on November 18, 2010 at 2:10 pm

Hey everyone! Thanks to those of you who came to our Gothic Horror night – it was really, really fun!

As you have probably deduced, the Haliburton is taking a break this week. If you are in the mood for something literary, however, you should check out the launch party for the latest issue of All Rights Reserved, a local literary journal that publishes poetry and sometimes features short fiction and interviews. It is happening TONIGHT, Thursday, November 18th, from 5-7pm at the Company House on Gottingen. There are five feature readers, and then the mic will be opened to anyone who wants to read. Please keep in mind that the event is 19+.

We will keep you updated on our future meetings and events. Have a lovely week!

Love, Lust and Desire!

In Uncategorized on October 5, 2010 at 12:33 am

Exciting news! Our second meeting of the year will be this very Thursday, October 7, at 7:30 in the Senior Common Room (under Cochran Bay). Was that bold enough? As you may have gathered, our theme for this meeting will be “Eros”. We hope that you will bring some spicy readings to share!

As usual, wine and cheese will be served, and your president has promised that she will bring something called “aphrodisiac squares”, so you will certainly have to come to find out just what those are.

In other news, this blog is looking kind of sparse! We’d like your help to fix this. If you have suggestions of what you would like us to put up on this blog, you can post a comment/shoot us an email. Ideas include but aren’t limited to book reviews, essays, or perhaps even a collection of links to free online editions of books/stories/what have you. We want your input!

That’s all for now. Hopefully we will see you all at the meeting on Thursday!! Last week’s turnout was rather sad, so do please come out for a bit before you run off to do whatever you will.

The Haliburton Society…

In Uncategorized on September 16, 2010 at 3:29 am

Is the oldest literary society in Canada, established in 1884. We will meet every other week to discuss all things literary which pertain to either a theme, or a group of languages (for example “Beginnings” or “Romance Languages”). We welcome all literature, be it poetry, novel, essay or drama, of your own authorship or that of someone else. Refreshments and great discussions are commonplace.

This blog will be to post announcements, news, and sundry other items of interest to those in the club.
